This is one of the most musical recordings of Benjamin Britten's "Nocturnal" that I have ever heard.

This young artist amazed the Berlin public.

Guitar & Laute Magazine - Germany

Best of all for me was Dale Kavanagh's interpretation of the difficult "Tres piezas" by Rodrigo, which, frankly, I have never heard played better.

Classical Guitar Magazine - England

Tonight Dale played solo - fast, clean, powerful, musical - an incredible concert.

Dale Kavanagh has taken the art of pianissimo to a new level. She was able to project even the most inticate arpeggio phrases with absolute transparency.

Last night we “Amadeus Guitar Duo” performed in San Francisco and it was a lovely night and we received a nice review.  Here is an excerpt of the review about my new composition called “Impressions”

More interesting, however, was Kavanagh’s solo performance of her recently-completed Impressions, a short suite of two movements, each honoring a major figure from her knowledge of past guitar repertoire. The first of these was the English composer Malcolm Arnold. (As a personal aside, I should note that I was first exposed to Arnold’s guitar concerto while working at the campus radio station at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and I came to know this concerto well before my first encounter with Joaquin Rodrigo’s “Concierto de Aranjuez.”) The second was the Paraguayan guitarist and composer Agustín Barrios. This was highly personal music well served by the Kavanagh’s focused execution.

Gala Night CD

February 5th, 2016

Our  NAXOS: “GALA NIGHT ” CD came out in December , 2015 with Thomas Kirchhoff, Christian Gruber and Peter Maklar and myself, Dale Kavanagh

Here is our first critic:

Two of the world´s best guitar duos have come together to record a CD of music from 4 centuries.  We had a high expectation for this CD and were not disappointed.
The top duos play a collection of Praetorius “Dances”, Borodin´s “Steps of Central Asia”, and the “Fandango” by Bocherini.  The demonstrated great ensemble playing and showing the wonderful sound variety that can be produced on the guitar, like a miniorchestra.

The Amadeus Duo gave a brilliant intrepretation of Giulliani´s “Variationi Concertanti” as did  Gruber & Maklar with da Falla´s “La vida BrèvĂ©”.  The  3 solo pieces   composed and performed by Dale Kavanagh were both lively and virtuos, rounding up the program.

Every title. every movement, every phrase and every note on this CD is successful, plus the production is immaculate.  This CD I can recommend for both guitar connoisseurs, and enthusiasts and guarantee a genuinely enjoyable listening experience.

Thanks to many teachers. my special people.

January 19th, 2016

It is time to finally thank all of the teachers that I can remember along my musical learning journey.

Beginning with Ken Bezanson with piano followed by  Prof. Owen Stevens.  Some 10 years of tremendous patience!  Paul Niemisto for clarinet and Band instruction- Symphonic and Jazz.  A great inspiration.

Jeffery May, who prepared me for my audition at Acadia helping me with classical and jazz guitar.  Who also provided important friendship and support at a very important time.

Ken Davidson, Carol van Feggelen, Doug Reach and Eli Kassner who tutored  me in my first university years at Acadia, University, Dalhousie University and the University of Toronto.  Each and every one of them were very helpful, supportive and filled with very good ideas for me.

All of the masterclass teachers at the Banff School of Music.  Just too many to name, but a special thanks to Tom and Isabelle Rolston, who made it all happen for me there.

Finally Oscar Ghiglia.  A great artist, teacher and friend.  A million thanks, always.

Thanks to all of you wonderful, special people for helping me follow a path that has taken me further that I had ever dreamed.
